Piedmont Tire and Auto has been chosen as my Business of the Week this week, but honestly, they should be featured for a month or more! The owner, John Filippone, is so generous and he often helps the community. He’s involved with several organizations in Haymarket and donates his time and money quite often.
Every spring, John gives away a set of tires to someone in the Western Prince William Chatter facebook group. He also makes it a habit for his business to support teachers, first responders, and the military. Every year he does something to raise awareness and money for childhood cancer as well.
Last year, a Brentsville District High School student, Ryland Harris, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Ryland’s mom is also very involved in the community and owns Totally Vintage Design in Manassas. When Ryland was diagnosed, word spread quickly. Between his mom’s business and the fact that Ryland is a popular, handsome, 3 sport athlete, it hit a lot of people hard. If this could happen to Ryland, it could happen to anyone.
Last week, John announced a challenge on the Facebook page. Instead of giving away just a set of tires this spring, he challenged other business owners to do a giveaway. Anyone who then made a donation via Venmo to the Harris family would be entered to win one of the donated prices. Very quickly, the Venmo donations added up surpassed what John had even envisioned.
This, my friends, is what this community is all about! If you would like to donate to support Ryland Harris and his family, please use Venmo. They set up an account so that all donations go straight to his family. The Venmo is @rylandstrong and the last 4 digits of the number for verification are 4948.
Piedmont Tire and Auto is an amazing business and so civic minded. Not only do they earn high praise for their automotive work, but they earn high praise for the heart they have for the community. I could not be more proud of them.
